Meet Allan
I AM A maker of memories
“Everyone has a different energy and every flight is a new experience.”
— Allan, Flight Attendant with WestJet

What do you love most about your job?
There’s so many aspects of this, but I love the people I work with. Nowadays, it’s changed from twenty years ago when you had time to interact with your customers and passengers, but I make the time during flights. Because everyone’s on a different journey and that’s the key to always having fun with your job. We create our own atmosphere and positive thinking is one of those things I always live by. If someone’s having a bad day, sometimes they just want an ear to listen to them. And that’s what I love about it. Everyone has a different energy and every flight is a new experience.
What’s your personal motto/credo?
I learned this phrase many years ago. It’s called “ubuntu”. It’s an African proverb and it means “I am because you are”. When our energies come together, we create this other energy. So, I am because you make me who I am.
What’s your secret talent that no one knows about?
I am a professional musician! I specialize on drums, in particular the steel drums from Trinidad and Tobago. I took those as an easy course in high school and from there, I went into all Latin percussive instruments – from djembes, African drums, congas. You name it, I played it. Except for the drum kit, that’s the only thing I can’t do to this day!
And I actually auditioned for TTC Subway musicians. 15,000 people auditioned and I was one of the lucky 20 to get the role! (@solopannist on Instagram)
