Meet Brandon

I AM A people person

“As cliché at it sounds, it’s only as a team that we are stronger.”
— Brandon, Welcome Team Volunteer, GTAA since 2013

Tell us a little about yourself and your role at the airport.

I started with the first Welcome Team cohort when the program launched and it’s gonna be 10 years this December.

Our primary role is to provide basic wayfinding to our passengers, but the reality is that it’s so much more! We’re often the first friendly face that people see when walking in the door and we’re able to get people to where they need to go and connect them with the right resource in terms of addressing their questions.

What do you love most about volunteering at Toronto Pearson?

It’s the highly dynamic nature of things at the airport. The ability to share my knowledge and my passion about the inner workings of this place with passengers is a very satisfying feeling and that’s what keeps bringing me back.

What’s your secret talent or your superpower?

I have two.

Since March 2020, I’ve been cutting my own hair. I taught myself to use a pair of clippers during the pandemic when barber shops shut down. [Can you cut your wife’s hair?] I probably could, but she won’t let me. She gets scared when she hears the clippers running!

The second is fixing just about everything. My car, my house, my friends’ cars, my friends’ houses. I think the only time I hired anyone to do work at my house was when I didn’t want to remove a hornet’s nest at a very high elevation! Other than that, I fix everything, build everything; I’m self-reliant.
