Banmore Group raises over $50,000 to fight cancer!

Cancer affects us all. This summer, one airport employer put its money where its mouth is — and invited airport workers and passengers alike to help.

Banmore Group, which operates 11 Subway, Booster Juice and Osmow’s outlets at Toronto Pearson, launched a fundraiser in late June to support the oncology department at Brampton Civic Hospital. The company’s initial goal was to raise $25,000, but with help from the Pearson community, they’ve more than doubled it!

On June 29 and 30, Banmore’s Subway outlets at Pearson, as well as the restaurant on Dixon Road, donated $1 from every footlong and .50 cents from every 6-inch sandwich. Its Booster Juice outlets donated $1 from every regular smoothie and .50 cents from every snack-size smoothie. All donations to the fundraiser, powered by William Ostler Health System, will support high-quality and compassionate care prevention, screening, diagnosis and treatment.

Banmore Group’s mission to boost the fight against cancer is inspired by the experience of CEO Mickey Patel. Last year, Patel was diagnosed with breast cancer. She fought the illness while continuing to work at Pearson, where she’s been for 12 years. Patel is now cancer-free, and the Banmore Group wants to support more recovery stories.

“Inspiration knows no bounds, and when hearts unite for a noble cause, miracles happen,” says Patel. “Everyone's shared commitment helped us to raise $50,696.00 for the William Osler Health System Foundation. As Dory [from Finding Nemo] said, ‘Just keep swimming, just keep swimming.’”

Thanks to the success of this year’s event, Banmore Group plans to hold the fundraising event again next year with a new target goal of $60,000.
