How to Get to Toronto Pearson in the Event of a TTC Strike

Update June 7: The union and TTC have reached a tentative deal and a strike has not been called. TTC services should be running normally.

The union representing TTC workers has announced that it could call a strike from Friday June 7. If the strike goes ahead, it would likely create major disruptions to TTC services across Toronto, including those to Toronto Pearson,

For the most up-to-date information, the TTC has advised transit users to check its website and follow its social media channels, where it will be sharing updates hourly.

To get to and from Pearson during a strike, there are several alternatives to the TTC. However, other transit services are likely to be very busy and road traffic surrounding the airport could be heavier than usual, so be sure to plan and give yourself plenty of time.

Here are a few options:

UP Express

The UP Express train departs Union Station for the airport every 15 minutes. The ride takes 25 minutes, with stops at Bloor and Weston stations, where riders can connect to GO Transit.

UP Express offers discounted fares for airport workers. Visit the UP Express service desk on the arrivals level of Terminal 1 to sign up.

GO Transit

GO buses and trains will continue to run during a TTC strike, however their services may be busier than usual.

  • GO bus route 94 will take you to Terminal 1 from locations across the GTA. It follows Highway 401 from Pickering with stops including Scarborough Central Bus Station and Yorkdale Bus Terminal.

  • GO Bus route 40 will take you to Terminal 1 from areas including Hamilton, Burlington, Oakville, and Richmond Hill.

  • You can also take GO trains to Union, Bloor, or Weston stations and then transfer to the UP Express to Pearson.

MiWay and Brampton Transit

The airport is served by several MiWay and Brampton Transit buses. Although these organizations are not themselves part of the strike, their buses are unable to serve stops within the City of Toronto boundaries during the labour action. Check the MiWay and Brampton Transit websites for updates.

Taxis, limos and rideshare services

The airport is also served by numerous taxis and airport limousines, which can be found outside the arrivals levels of both terminals. Rideshare services such as Uber and Lyft are also available. Although these may be subject to surge pricing, the UberX Share option allows riders to save up to 20 percent when matched with a rider along their route. Taxis and rideshare services are likely to be very busy with longer than normal wait times for a ride.
