Who’s Hiring at YYZ? December Edition

Over 50,000 people work at Pearson Airport — from aircraft engineers and security experts to bank representatives and baristas, the airport is like a small city within a city. Each month, we'll feature a selection of live job postings that showcase the range of exciting opportunities in the GTAA community. Here are just a few examples of who’s hiring now — and if you have a friend or family member who might be a good fit for one of these roles, be sure to pass it on!  

1. Mechanic, Deicing Operations 
Employer: GTAA 
Role: In this role, you’ll be responsible for the inspections, preventative maintenance, and repairs of engines, component parts, and attachments to deicing vehicles and support equipment. 
Key requirements: You’ll need strong knowledge of vehicle technology and a minimum of two years of experience as a heavy-equipment mechanic. You’ll also need a valid Ontario Certificate of Qualifications in the trade of Truck and Coach Technician (310T) and a valid Ontario Provincial Class G driver’s license.

2. Shift Manager, Food Services 
Employer: HMS Host  
Role: Shift Managers at HMSHost — which operates restaurants in over 120 airports worldwide — assist senior management in overseeing individual restaurant operations at Pearson. The MGRI ensures the restaurant is properly staffed, clean, ready for business, and operates at high operational standards.  
Key requirements: In addition to strong communication skills, candidates must have a minimum of 2 years of experience in food and beverage, cash handling, and customer service. In addition, a minimum of 6 months of supervisory or lead experience in a restaurant or production kitchen is mandatory.

3. Flight Nurse 
Employer: Fox Flight Air Ambulance 
Role: Canadian-owned Fox Flight is seeking a Flight Nurse to join its team, which provides international medical transportation services through its fleet of specially configured LearJet 40XR air ambulances, as well as medical escort services on commercial air carriers. 
Key requirements: You must be a Registered Nurse in Ontario with at least 2 years of critical care/ICU experience and a valid passport. You’ll also need to live within 1 hour of Toronto Pearson International Airport. This position is permanent part-time, with a scheduled 10 consecutive days per month on-call.

4. Pre-Board Screening Officer 
Employer: Garda World    
Role: This role is responsible for screening the travelling public and their belongings at Pearson, and ensuring that non-permitted items do not enter the secure area. Pre-Board Screening Officers also control access to restricted areas and participate in emergency operations within the airport.      
Key requirements: Must be a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident over 18, with a high-school diploma or equivalent (GED). A clean criminal record and eligibility for RAIC security clearance are mandatory.

5. Senior Operations Manager, Baggage Cart Management and Maintenance Services
Employer: AAS Canada 
Role: The Senior Operations Manager provides visible leadership, with an active role in empowering, engaging, and motivating employees. Responsibilities include the development and implementation of all baggage cart operating and contingency plans at Pearson; ensuring appropriate staffing levels; and working closely with the GTAA, communicating recommendation as well as information about any incidents, accidents, or complaints.  
Key requirements: AAS Canada is seeking a strategic thinker and problem solver with a minimum of 10 years of people-management experience and 7 years of airport experience. Must be data-oriented, possess superior communications skills, and the ability to think quickly and manage conflicting priorities.
