Who’s Hiring at YYZ? January Edition

Over 50,000 people work at Pearson Airport — from aircraft engineers and security experts to bank representatives and baristas, the airport is like a small city within a city. Each month, we'll feature a selection of live job postings that showcase the range of exciting opportunities in the GTAA community. Here are just a few examples of who’s hiring now — and if you have a friend or family member who might be a good fit for one of these roles, be sure to pass it on!

1. Airport Duty Manager 
Employer: AAS Canada
Role: Aviation and Airport Services (AAS) Canada offers airline ground-handling and passenger-support services. The Airport Duty Manager is responsible for daily operations for AAS Canada at Toronto Pearson, including passengers with reduced mobility (PRM) services, and the management of emergency situations. This role oversees a team of Shift Managers responsible for various work zones and functions, and ensures that Pearson passengers are served safely, efficiently, and with integrity.
Key requirements: Candidates should have superior problem-solving and multi-tasking skills, outstanding customer service and communication skills, and the ability to diffuse tense situations. In addition, a minimum of 5 years of direct experience in airport operations and 3 years of experience managing a large team with multiple operations are preferred.

2. Jeff Hatt Apprenticeship Program
Employer: Greater Toronto Airport Authority
Role: GTAA is accepting applications from those interested in training as a millwright (2 positions), plumber (1 position), or mechanic (1 position). The training program enables apprentices to learn a specific trade via a combination of technical trade instruction and on-the-job training, assisting them on their path to becoming certified skilled trades professionals. 
Key requirements: Interested applicants should be self-motivated, dependable and work well independently or in a group. They must a have a high school diploma or GED, a valid “G” Ontario driver’s license, and be able to lift over 30 lbs. on a regular basis. They must also demonstrate a basic proficiency with computers and power/hand tools, and pass an academic diagnostic assessment.

3. First Cook
Employer: CLS Catering Services
Role: Reporting to the Sous Chef and First Cook (Lead Hand and Coordinator), the First Cook supports “hot prep” food production, adheres to hygiene standards and customer specifications, records and maintains inventory count, and provides leadership and guidance to Second Cooks and General Cooks, as needed.
Key requirements: Must have a minimum of 4-5 years’ experience in high-volume cooking and preparation of different cuisines, in addition to Red Seal certification and a Food Handler Certificate. The ability to multi-task and work safely and respectfully in a teamwork environment are essential. Post-secondary education from a certified culinary institute is an asset.

4. Operations Manager, Line Maintenance
Employer: WestJet    
Role: Responsible for providing leadership, structure, and performance feedback to the airline’s front-line Aircraft Maintenance Engineers (AME), this role keeps day-to-day maintenance operations flowing safely and efficiently.     
Key requirements: Special qualifications for this role include a valid Transport Canada Aircraft Maintenance Engineer License (M2, E, or S) and an industry Canada Radio (Aeronautical) Certificate. In addition to technical skills, candidates should be solutions-oriented self-starters with a proven ability to mentor and motivate team members using outstanding people skills.

5. Dispatcher
Employer: PrimeFlight Aviation Services Canada
Role: PrimeFlight Aviation Services provides airlines and airports with a range of aircraft, passenger and security services. As a Dispatcher for the PrimeFlight Toronto Pearson Airport team, you will support our airline clients by taking calls for requests for employee coverage, overseeing scheduling and reassigning of job duties as needed, and maintaining records, such as shift reports and telephone logs, as required.
Key requirements: Candidates must be 18 years of age, with excellent customer service, communication, and problem-solving skills. Intermediate-level proficiency in web-based programs, including Microsoft Word and Outlook, is required.
